Concurrency Challenge
We'll send a free copy of the book to the 20 people who submit the most elegant, correct, solution to the problem described below by this Halloween (October 31, 2007). Answers don't have to consist of running programs---sufficiently detailed pseudocode is fine---but you must explain (a) why you believe your solution works, and (b) what makes it beautiful.

Beautiful Code Essay Contest
We're running the following contest for the month of September: in 1000 to 1500 words, describe the best piece of code you didn't write. Perhaps it was something you saw while pair programming, or a technique buried deep in an open source project, or just a snippet from a book. Whatever it was, tell us what it is that made it particularly appealing. In October, our three judge panel (Andy Oram, Greg Wilson, and Michael Feathers) will award the top 15 winners a coveted prize. And, we'll periodically point out entries on the beautifulcode.oreillynet.com.

Getting started
In addition to looking at our instructions for writing recipes, please look at the documentation for MediaWiki. In particular, see the User's Guide. Wiki markup is simple, but it's still important to get it right.
