We're running the following contest for the month of September: in 1000 to 1500 words, describe the best piece of code you didn't write. Perhaps it was something you saw while pair programming, or a technique buried deep in an open source project, or just a snippet from a book. Whatever it was, tell us what it is that made it particularly appealing.

In October, our three judge panel (Andy Oram, Greg Wilson, and Michael Feathers) will award the top 15 winners a coveted prize. And, we'll periodically point out entries on the beautifulcode.oreillynet.com.
